What We Do

Established in 2017, YAF Ghana works to provide a platform for low-income high school students to explore scholarship opportunities available to them in Ghana and abroad to pursue higher education. YAF Ghana achieves this by organizing scholarship workshops in selected high schools to educate students on topics such as government and corporate scholarships in Ghana, U.S. college scholarships and applications, and other local and international scholarships.

Aside from the scholarship workshops, YAF Ghana also runs a residential scholars program that helps gifted but needy students from some of the poorest communities in Ghana to gain admission to elite colleges in North America. The 16-week summer program consists of two residential sessions in which students get basic SAT prep and an introduction to American colleges and the application processes.

In addition to the college application training, YAF Ghana also engages scholars in career development activities. Our scholars explore various career fields and undertake group projects. Through these activities, our scholars gain essential skills in public speaking, presentation, teamwork, as well as project design and implementation.

YAF Ghana continues to support its scholars after they have successfully gained admission to elite colleges with full scholarships. Scholars receive guidance to help them navigate the visa application process and the U.S. immigration system. When in the United States, our scholars are paired with mentors and host families that provide them with additional support.

YAF Ghana's goal is to continue to support the educational aspirations of hardworking high school students so they can graduate from university and become agents of change in their communities.
