Today, we are celebrating Kofi Owusu Sekyere, a graduate of Opoku Ware School (AKATAKYIE) and the Young Achievers Foundation Ghana Scholars program. Kofi is looking forward to starting his undergraduate education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, on a 4-year full scholarship worth approximately $243,000.
Kofi was accepted into the Cornell College of Arts and Sciences where he plans to study Environmental and Sustainability with a second major in Computer Science.
Kofi describes himself as an environmental technologist. He is passionate about applying the latest in computer technology to help address the myriad of environmental challenges the world faces.
“The environmental problems in my country and the world at large encompasses everything from expensive technology, social policy, and public policy. Hence, it will require multifaceted solutions. This is why I hope to study in the assertively interdisciplinary curriculum at Cornell, combining seemingly unrelated fields like environmental humanities and governance with computer science”
Kofi joins a cohort of YAF Ghana scholars who are already taking concrete steps to apply their education to tackle the pressing issues the world faces today.
We are proud of Kofi’s achievements and wish him the very best in his college education.
