April 8, 2022 admin 0 Comments

Today, the entire YAF Ghana family celebrates Michael Hayford for his selection as a Karsh International Scholar at Duke University in North Carolina, United States. Michael is among a small cohort of incoming first-year students awarded this prestigious scholarship.

As a scholar, Michael will receive approximately $315,000.00 in scholarship which will cover his comprehensive cost of education during his four years at Duke University. Aside from the generous funding, Michael will also have opportunities for independent research both in the summer and during the academic year.

We’re proud of you, Michael, for this incredible achievement. If there’s anybody more deserving of this opportunity, it’s you. We wish you the very best in your college journey.

Go yafalians💪🏾!

Learn More About Michael:

Michael is a graduate of Opoku Ware School (AKATAKYIE) and the YAF Ghana Scholars program. At Duke, he plans to major in environmental studies with a focus on environmental policy, sustainability, and natural resources. He’s interested in pursuing an education that’ll enable him to research and discover innovative ways to combat climate change while advocating and pushing for political action, particularly in the developing world.

As a scholar at YAF Ghana, Michael demonstrated incredible maturity and a sense of purpose. His love for climate issues and global affairs was evident in his actions and engagements. He played a crucial role in the Youth for Climate Action (Youth4CA), a youth-led program aimed at mobilizing youth to lead the fight against climate change through environmental education and sensitization.

Michael believes in making an impact anywhere he finds himself. We strongly believe in his ability to leverage the resources and opportunities available at Duke to become the changemaker he hopes to be.

Kudos, Michael!
