Why YAF Ghana Scholars Program?
The YAF Ghana Scholars Program identifies and supports promising young leaders, enabling them to gain full scholarships to study at top colleges and universities around the world. The program allows our scholars to pursue their educational goals and gain access to a supportive network of peers, mentors, and professional opportunities, fostering personal growth and leadership development.
The YAF Ghana Scholars program is fully funded. Once accepted, scholars DO NOT pay any money for our services. YAF Ghana covers all costs.
SELECTION PROCESS
YAF Ghana selects its scholars through a very rigorous process. Our core criteria for selection center on academic achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, family background, and other personal qualities. Our selected students participate in a year-round program that includes both online and in-person sessions, depending on the Ghanaian educational calendar.
As part of the program, our scholars are prepared for the American SAT examination and guided through the college application process. Scholars also receive a general orientation to American culture and the unfamiliar academic conventions of American universities.
Selected students into the YAF Ghana Scholars program embody the following qualities:
- Academic Excellence
- Problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership potential in school and community
- Economic disadvantage
- Demonstrated interest in community service
GENERAL INFORMATION
Each year, YAF Ghana selects 30 to 35 students from hundreds of applicants. To be eligible, applicants must have completed high school and passed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Given that YAF Ghana scholars are competing against thousands of qualified students worldwide, we ensure that those chosen for our program adhere to our stringent academic criteria.
YAF Ghana evaluates various factors beyond academic achievements when selecting students for our program. Nevertheless, to be considered a strong candidate, an applicant must achieve at least 4 A’s in the WASSCE examinations. Applicants receiving a C4 in two or more subjects are automatically disqualified from our program.
Take Note
If you scored less than 4 A’s on your WASSCE, or you didn’t make the final shortlist, you can still take advantage of the resources YAF Ghana offers by joining our year-round SAT Bootcamp. Please note that, unlike our scholars program which is offered at no cost, there is a fee for the SAT Bootcamp. For more details, visit the SAT Bootcamp page or call 0245393741, 0504348104.
